Last time we heard from Asyncdrone, they had come out of the studio with seven tracks leaning on virtuosic improv & sharp-edged electronics, a long way from their lo-fi debut. Now back to the core duo of Kaia Wong & David Turgeon, the band gleefully achieves yet another stylistic left turn, heading straight into a particularly heady kind of electronic pop, featuring anxious/lovestruck lyrics, sweet violin and scintillating mbira. Admittedly, this EP was a long time coming — but rest assured, it will be followed later this year by a spectacular album entitled Maybe Future. Asyncdrone in 2021 baby! You’ll only wonder what took them so long.
